Marilyn Wanser - Breast Cancer Survivor & Health Advocate

Marilyn grew up in rural New York State, then moved to New Jersey as a young adult. She enjoyed a long career in the corporate world, managing multi-million dollar budgets and technology professionals in large corporations. Though on many levels her career was viewed as successful, it didn't satisfy her desire to "make a difference" - a difference that mattered.

For years, Marilyn had been intrigued with metaphysics and spirituality, attending classes on meditation, reiki, shamanism, yoga, hypnotherapy and more. She began to understand the connection between the metaphysical and day-to-day life, and she wanted to share her insights, but why would people be interested - especially if they didn't understand metaphysics? She didn't know it, but the answer was "in the works."

Her stressful career took a toll on her spirit, and ultimately on her body. In 2001 she was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. Like many women who receive such devastating news, she followed her doctors' advice: mastectomy, reconstruction, chemotherapy and radiation. After the initial shock and the whirlwind of activity and emotions, she began her own intensive research, poring over books and the overwhelming amount of information on the internet. She learned about many other treatment options, study results, statistics, reports from scientists and research physicians, and the differences between allopathic and holistic medicine. She realized how little she knew when she made her decisions about treatment choices.

During treatment and recovery, Marilyn talked with many other survivors, sharing stories, hopes and fears, and... information. It was clear that the medical community could not provide all that was needed to help women through this ordeal.

Her research and her sharing of information and feelings gave birth to her passion to educate other women about this devastating disease and the many ways of avoiding and fighting it. She vowed to raise public awareness about additional choices that are available in the fight against breast cancer - choices that can make a significant difference in wellness and survival.

Breast cancer has been a life-altering experience for Marilyn. She gave up her career and has now committed her life to making a contribution that will benefit others. Her knowledge of metaphysics and spirituality enable her to see life-threatening disease as an opportunity for spiritual growth. Through extensive research, she has gained a clearer understanding of the relationship between mind/body/spirit and daily "life" and the healing process. She has found her purpose - to help others facing catastrophic illness become informed and empowered so they can intuitively select the treatment that is right for them. Studies show that patients who take control of their medical program and who feel supported emotionally enjoy a better quality of life, slow their disease progression and may extend their survival time. THIS is worth fighting for!
